Professor Susan Gourvenec
Susan specialises in seabed engineering and leads a team which develops seabed engineering solutions for offshore hydrocarbon developments. Her research focuses on seabed soil mechanics and translating research outcomes to design frameworks for use in engineering practice. A number of design tools derived from Susan’s research are widely used in industry.
In her role as a Task Group Leader on the ISO/API Geotechnical Resource Group – the global network of geotechnical experts who devise and approve the international design codes – Susan is responsible for disseminating UWA research into worldwide engineering practice.
Susan also leads the delivery of specialist courses on offshore geomechanics as part of the University curriculum and short courses for industry and is co-author of the recent best-seller “Offshore Geotechnical Engineering”.
She was a recipient of the Vice Chancellor's Mid-Careers Research Award, bestowed during UWA Reseaerch Week in November 2014.
